Late Mr. K.D.M. Gunathilake Registrar General of births and Marriages was the founder of Magammana Maha Vidyalaya.

He started this school in 1901 in order to fulfill the meed of giving a sound education so the children in the Magammana Village.

At the same time he started a Teacher parent Association and he was the first chair person of that Association.

In 1903 as a junior school late Mrs. W.W. Engalthina Hamine was the first principal of the school. In 1920 this school has become a state school and has done a grade service to the people in the area. And has done a grade service to the people in the area.

In 1969 this school has up graded and declared as a Magammana Maha Vidyalaya . Today Magammana Maha Vidyalaya is one of the best schools in the Homagama Zone giving a sound education to the students in the area and rendering a great service to the community.
